gear sizing
I need to know how I can figure out the size of the gears so I can get a rear end for my F150 XL 302 4 speed automatic 2 x 4 1986. The slavage yard says there's no such thing as a stock ratio either, but all those F150's were made the same with "stock" ratio, am I correct in saying that? Please help, truck needs to be fixed by ASAP it's the only form of transporation.

It should be imprinted on the housing. However, if you are trying to find a rough estimate, pull the diff cover and mark one of the teeth on the ring gear and spin the pinion gear and note how many times the ring gear turns relative to the amount of full turns of the tires or axle shafts. You'll notice, for example, a little over four turns of the ring gear per one revolution of the tires.....this would be a 4.10 ratio....etc.
