Drive train noise

Hello, I'm a newbie to the group and very impressed with the help I've seen. My question is two part. First how can I review/search historical posts so that I don't ask a question that's already been asked. Second (my priority question) is more at diagnosis of problems during acceleration in my 1994 Aerostar, XLT, 4L, pwr windows, A/C, ~120K odom. When I reach about 40 mph, and hold, the ride is very rough. As I continue to accelerate the gears seem to slip in and out. I have a notion what this may be but would like some feedback from the group. Also, if anyone would like me to try some simple tests on the vehicle let me know and I'll try to accomodate. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Aerostar forum on FTE! It is always nice to have more Aerostar owners at this online party.

The search function for the various forums is accessed by using the small "search" button near the top of the page - the one between "home" and "help", not the Site Search at the far right. You need at least a four letter descriptor. You can also narrow the focus by searching within individual forums.

Although your inquiry is titled Drivetrain Noise, your post seems to imply driveablity problems as no specific noise is mentioned. From the given symptoms, you could have vacuum line leakage, throttle position (TPS) sensor troubles, idle air control valve woes, bad spark plugs and/or cables or a loose fitting manifold. More exotic (expensive) ills may involve the transmission itself, but generally if it has not been abused and the fluid is at the proper level the trouble is elsewhere.

You should do a search on these topics and see if any fit the problems you are experiencing. Post back with any further findings or questions.
