I want to maintain the color, shine and protection on the new '04 xlt 5.4l, SCab in Dark Shadow Gray, but I am confused.
I have always waited 60 days-to allow the paint to bake in- before appplying wax.
I used the best Carnauba (sp?) wax that I gould get.
The book on the '04 truck says, under "Waxing", to apply a "polymer paint sealant" every six months.
Do you think that Ford is just going along with the Dealer $500 paint sealant/fabric protector packages or that this is the right thing to do on the 2004? I don't know.
I have had my truck for about two weeks and have washed it in that time more than any vehicle that I have ever owned-4 times, two weeks.
Someone with more knowledge than me about finish protection would be a friend.

I would also like some advice on waxing my 04 Screw. I bought McGuires wax and I want to wax it next week, is this too soon? What the hell is "polymer paint sealant"?
Do some research on brands like Zaino, meguiars, zymol, etc. It all depends on how much you want to put into it. I would recommend claying the vehicle & then adding polish/wax. Made a big difference on my Cobra when I got it.
last year i asked Mequairs when a new vehicle could be waxed and they said with clear coat vehicles there is no waiting period. Clear coat vehicles are ready to wax on the day you buy them. And even if a person bought a vehicle this morning, the build date could have been several weeks or months ago so retail delivery date is not the best judge of how long the paint has been exposed to the elements. As for my truck, i wash with a made for auto car wash soap, followed by mothers clay bar treatment, then Zymol polish, followed by mequiars Gold Class wax. I bought my 97f150 new and i put it thru this treatment twice a year-- it still shines like a new penny. Guy at work polishes and waxes his Mustang GT about 6 times a year. I dont know if a car can be waxed too frequently but his 2002 GT still reallly looks great.
