I have a 2001 f350 flatbed and the oil pan has started seeping pretty bad. I'm pulling it and was wondering if there were any other things I should replace while its out. I plan on inspecting the rear main seal, valve cover gasket/harness, look over the turbo pedastool mounting and see if those o-rings are toast.
Any other known trouble spots I should look at while the engine is out would be great, Thank you.
Do all seals that you can. Check flywheel teeth for wear. Replace all hoses that are hard to get to. Other than that you should be GTG if the engine is solid...
Thank you, The engine runs great with 172K but leaves a puddle everywhere it goes. Just a matter of time before a driver doesn't think to check the oil on it and causes all kinds of stuff. I appreciate the help.
As the post above suggested, you should definitely replace the motor mounts. No easier time to do it then now. You will notice the smoothness of having new engine mounts once you have it back on the road.
If you have wear on ring gear, it will likely only be on the starter drive gear side face. The other side will still be good (unworn). Often, using a brass drift, you can tap ring gear off, turn over and reinstall. They're installed with an interference fit. Make sure it seats square to step on flywheel.
