Hey,
I haven't posted in this forum in quite a while.
But anyways, I have a Ford Alternator on my 66 F-100 w/ 390
I want to convert to a single wire GM style alternator
That way all I have to run is one power wire.
Or Id settle for the GM kind w/ 3 or so wires on it..
But my problem is... it hitting the block.
I use the back pulley groove on the crank to turn the alternator
I could space it out so it runs off the front pulley groove but Id rather not.
So does anyone know what year model GM product alternator will fit on this w/o hitting the heads?
Andy, Read the technical article I wrote on this subject. It's on the front page of this site. If you have additional questions, shoot me an e-mail. Also there was a good discussion of this issue last week, do a search. Someone is selling a nice bolt on bracket that solves the problem you mentioned. Ford truck brackets are available in the junk yards for cheap. Like I said, if you are stuck send me an e-mail or call me evenings at 678 567-1988. Be sure to mention Ford truck parts or my wife (hates telemarketers) will hang up on you!
Hrm, looks like you have to lower it right?
I really dont want to do that.
But I would if I could get the brackets.
Problem is... I can't find any around here
Ive only found 2 trucks w/ FEs in them and they have been crushed since i went back to the junkyard
Oh well, looks like im stuck to the high moutn ford
Also, i got the log in message at the bottom of the site...
I was logged in, and I couldnt get in it
but I couldnt find the option for allow session cookines in my internet settings...
Andy, The low mounts are available. I'd look at 73-76 FE engine trucks and 60"s cars with FEs. Lowering the alternator cleans up the appearance of the engine and puts the alternator in a cooler envrionment. The 45amp one wire will fit up high, the 85's won't. I like the 85 because it powers everything adequetly including all those old corroded connectors and switches.
William
Thats the problem.... cant find any Fe motors around here.
45 is way to small, and so is 85 )
I run a 110 on my GMC and will prob try to run one close to that on the 66
Anyone have a set of these they might let me have for my g/fs birthday? lol (since mines in april and hers was 2 days ago)
Or atleast let me know where i can purchase them online
Hrm.. thanks. a bit to rich for my blood at the moment
(trying to get necessary things done first)
but thanks for the link
I think my brackets may work to do that. lol
As the top bracket spacers look identical to mine.
Thanks again for the help. and I'll let you know how it turns out
