Hello
I have an 1992 e150 conversion van and i have a noise that seems to be coming from the passenger side sounds front in the back of engine compartment or so its only loud when i accelerate and i cant figure it out and is driving me a little crazy. Anyone have any idea what this could be as it is only when i accelerate is when it is loud once i get to speen it quiets down...
Thanks for any help
Mike
Can't say what your noise is. There are guides to finding noises in some manuals. Common problems include loose or worn engine mounts or transmission mounts that let the drivetrain move under torque during acceleration. When the drivetrain moves it puts a bind on the exhaust system and makes noise or the exhaust hits something and makes noise. Stethoscopes and vacuum cleaner hoses can help isolate noises sometimes.
thanks for the reply its like a fluttering noise almost like exhaust leak or something but i am unable to pin point it. It has become my mission because it drives me nuts otherwise van rides great...just flutters when under acceleration i checked the exhaust pipes for possible hole but cant find anything obvious yet
Thanks
check the check valve on the smog pump lines and assemblies. you should have a line that ties into the exhuast pipe near the cat there is a check valve with in that line and they do go out.
There is an air injection pipe that runs from the back of one exhaust manifold to the other...it also has a check valve in the middle of it. This pipe often rusts out on older trucks and will give you that annoying exhaust sound when it does.
