i have just bought a 1962 ford unibody that i plan on rebuilding with my son. the person that i baought it from also sold me a 1989 lincoln lsc, which he said take the drive train out and put in the truck. a 302 ho trans a nd rear axle. question is has anyone done this and what may be some of the problems with if? thanks
try a search for engine swaps. this will bring up all sorts of swaps, but if you read thru the titles you should come up with some posts with all the answers you need. you will find about 20 ways to do each step, so use the one that works for you.
by the way, while you are working on the swap, step down to the 48-60 forum and read the threads on the i f s swaps. that will make your install look a lot neater, and give you a matching suspension front and rear.
Congradulations on your project. Are you just swapping the drive train or restoring. If restoring you will end up changing more than you ever thought. I don't mean this to sound discourging but I have been working on my truck a long time, a little here, a little there. I guess unless you have a big shop and have a life time of experence, there is a lot of reserch time and money to do, to do it right.I have spent a couple of years just tooling up, welders tourches etc. I am in the process of finding the right front clip to make it more driveable. All I can tell you about swapping is that you might have to mock everything up on the ground, then build something to suspend your engine to locate where to weld brackets. This may sound crazy but I am lowering the 289 that was in mine when I got it. It had a modified cross memeber in it, in the wrong place. It just had pieces of angle iron just lapped over the frame. I cut them off and I am going to weld a flat piece on each side, then box the frame where they will bolt up to the inside of the frame. I am just telling you this to let you know that anything is doable. Just keep visualizing and doing reserch and you will solve your problem. Check out my truck, (Rich's 1961) should be 62. Have a good one, Keep on trucking
