I am wanting to get some headers, but I don't have much money to spend. I know you get what you pay for but I would rather buy an inexpensive pair now and then get a good pair down the road. My question is what type/brand of header should I get? What size tubes should I look for that will make the best performance? I have a single inlet, dual outlet Flowmaster exhaust.
stay away from the summit headers, i have a pair and not to happy with them. save up a little longer and get a nice set like edelbrock, or gibson.
later
Im with Kem on this one. It doesnt make sense to make two purchases to only end up with one set. Save some dough and get a nice set of Gibson, Bassani, or JBA.
Im going with the masses on this one. Wait and get the good ones. Besides, if you get the cheap headers now, then you may wind up with the cheap thin flange and then get exhaust leaks. This will cause heat dissipation problems which can and will ruin your engine. So going cheap now, may cost you alot more than good headers later.
I dont remember offhand what most of them use (its either 1 5/8 or 1 7/8 primaries) and a 3" collector. Plus, you should look for a set labeled 'equal length'. They will work alot better than the cheaper Pacesetters and the like that have diff. lengths for each cylinder and meet at the common collector. My bassanis are equal length, and the primaries are all wrapped up inside each other. It looks cool, and flows better.
Ditto to the equal length AND the better headers. If you are gonna have to spend money on something...might as well do it ONCE and RIGHT the first time. Equal length keeps the exhaust from different cylinders from running into each other at the collector giving the rest of the system the time to scavenge the exhaust from the first cylinder away before exhaust from the next cylinder gets there and so on down the line.
I was looking at Gibson and Bassani, both of which I have been told are good. The Gibson don't appear to be equal length though. Is it worth it to pay the extra money for the HTC coated ones?
