My 93 5.0 5sp.4x4 has a noticible miss at idle but runs fine until I go up a hill then it craps out near the top but seems to correct itself by the time I reach the top. It has new plugs wires and cap and rotor. Today I checked the rotor and cap and there was a buildup on the rotor and contacts in the cap. It is only 3 weeks old. I also hooked a plug up to one of the wires and started the engine .The spark is strong but yellow. Should it be blue? Could the coil be weak? If so how do check it? If it needs replacing should go with ford or aftermarket? What brand?
Could it possibly be a bad injector? I ran the motor and then checked the plugs and they all look the same, a nice coffee color. Thanks for any input.
Spark should definitely be blue. If you want a good coil, for not a lot of cash go for the MSD TFI unit, not but about $45-$50 and it puts out more power than the stock coil. Plus switch over to a set of Motorsport plug wires (9mm's), and you'll have more than enough spark. Plus something I've always found very useful when dealing with ignition stuff is to use a Brass COntact distributor cap. That'll get the fire to the plpugs alot more efficiently than the aluminum contacts of the replacement caps.
