E3TE-6750 AC What is the best type of oil for this old engine in WA state and for hauling/pulling?
The oil pan gasket is leaking, so was going to have my mechanic replace it and the rear main seal at the same time. I am also considering a minor overhaul and freshen up this beast of an engine, but do not really know what the true specs of the engine are and/or what they need to be to accommodate for the heavy duty add ons. Is this a 350 chassis? Is this engine built more like an RV or econoline? It is the orginal engine. Also, what upgrades can I do? The EGRs appear to be in and lines present, but not hooked up to carb.
Suggestions and help please, as this is all new to me and I want this truck in tip top shape before I start hauling a 31' travel trailer and my 1949 Ferguson TO 20 Tractor over the mountain passes to their new home.
Also, any recommendations on a great shop or mechanic in Washington State that is an expert in those old engines?
Thanks!
F26 says it's a standard cab 4x4 (5th, 6th and 7th digits)
Your front axle weight rating is 3850 lbs. Nothing special about that, that is the weight rating for the standard dana 44 hd ttb axle that came with standard cab pickups. The heavy duty front axle was the dana 50 ttb axle and would have been standard on the f350 and extended cab f250, and special order on a regular f250.
The 4th digit does indicate you have a f250HD and not a f250. The biggest difference in that is your truck should have the full floating rear axle under it. That would be the axle with the black pieces sticking out of the center of the rear wheels with all the little bolts in them.
99% of the time you tell them the year and the size (460) and you get the part needed for the job.
You talking a valve job so you need gaskets?
Once apart you would be able to tell what it is and the needed parts.
Now unless you are grinding the seats & valves and need to replace some and guides the shop doing the work can get the needed parts as they will know once into the job.
