Supercharge an 01 HD?
Hey,
I have a 01 HD and I was wondering what the possibility of retrofitting a Lightning or 02+ SC to my Harley was? Is it a pretty simple bolt-on (well, as easy as a SC could be) or does it require a more complex process? I've looked on Ebay and saw a 2002 SC and upper and lower intake for 900 (reserve not met) but could get a Lightning SC for much cheaper, or so it seems. Knowing that its a similar engine and SC, I thought this may be possible. Anyway, I'm sure you guys could help me out. Thanks in advance.

I can't see it being that much of a problem though I'm certainly no expert. What you may want to do is get some printouts from Ford on the supercharger/intake schematics for the 2001 you have and the supercharged '03 HD and see what the differences are and work from there. You may also want to contact Kenne Bell and ask if their Blowzilla kit for lightnings will work on your truck as well that should give you a good idea of the similarities.
And in actuality installing a Supercharger isn't that hard overall. I have modest wrenching skills (very modest really) and my first install of a centrifigal supercharger on my 86 GT was only 8 hours, the subsequent 2 or 3 installations I did after that it was 6 or 7 hours to install. It's mainly removing and replacing things. The only thing I could see being a pain with the HD/Lightning is the intercooler.

If I wanted to put a supercharger on a non-supercharged from the factory 5.4 I wouldn't choose the Harley or the Lightning one. I would pick any of the aftermarket companies that sell them as the Eaton on these trucks are a little less efficient than some of the aftermarket ones. A lot of the lightning and Harley owners are moving to the aftermarket ones too.
You'd need fuel injectors, maybe extra fuel pump and a chip to program your computer for correct fuel delivery with the boost. I'm sure there is more to. I'm by no means an expert.
