94 knocking fixed
The wifes 94 Explorer started knocking on hills on vacation early this summer. Put 91 octane in it and that helped. 93 eliminated the problem. Got home and cleaned the MAF, etc. and it helped a little. Last week the thermostat stuck and it overheated. After I put in a new thermostat and flushed the coolant/radiator, I noticed the knocking quit. She did too and says it now runs and has the power it used to. I hadn't noticed any major differences with the temp gauge. What was the problem? Did cleaning the temp sensors when the coolant system was cleaned/flushed remove a bunch of accumulated gunk or is there something else that was the problem? Thoughts?

When changing the coolant on radiator, how did you take the air out of the radiator and collant system? Where and what does the air bleed looked like in the engine for a Ford 1997 explorer?
And how do one know for sure all air has be taken out of the collant system ? Thanks for any information.
