Other than a fresh oil change three days ago, all I've put on the car is three or four thousand miles.
I noticed a couple of times that when I let it sit and idle, a tick would come and go. I believe the tick is a cam phaser. I also started noticing a high-pitched grinding sound, sort of like a catalytic converter shield vibrating, which would occur under acceleration, but I haven't noticed either occur since the oil change. And I actually used Motorcraft oil this time, along with a Motorcraft filter which I've always used. Last time I used some name-brand oil, like Valvoline or Mobil1 or something.
Think that left front wheel bearing might be getting worse... I've had good luck with just buying the whole knuckle and hub assembly at the junkyard, when faced with this on FWD cars, so I guess I'll try that route with the Mustang. Hopefully spindle assemblies are the same between V6s and GTs. But first, I guess I should jack up that wheel and make sure it isn't a tie-rod...
This project thread is dragging along so slowly, that even 80-year-olds are getting impatient with it...
So I got a Motorcraft for $60 from a local chain of auto parts stores here. On the shelf, right around the corner from home. Easy enough, although I had to stop and run to Menards for a can of PB Blaster and a small MAP torch - It was very nice buying a torch knowing that I didn't have to go do any plumbing work. I think I got the toe-setting close, but I need to find some level ground and measure it - or just get an alignment, since I need two tires anyway.
I wasn't wanting to daily it, but for now that is the arrangement - about 100 miles a week or so. Probably in the spring, I will take care of those two new dings, and see about getting it painted.
you are making me wish i still had my 07, real oddball
, blown v6 , 8.8 ls in the back gt brakes all around gt bumpers, true duals, using stock gt mufflers, had that just perfect sound,
who doesn't love the c2's , i just sold that c2 . after owning it for 51 years, basic of basic's 250 hp 4 speed, NO a/c no p/s crank windows, radio delete , just pure fun,
my 07 stang was a sleeper as that v6 placed 440hp on the ground, looked like a GT but didn't carry the insurance costs of one. great to hear you still have and enjoy your 05 that generation helped ford prove how well loved the stangs are
I think my favorite is the C2 Roadster with the Auxiliary Hard Top. Even as a kid looking at them when they were still fairly recent cars, I always thought that that look was every bit the equal of the Coupes. The Holy Grail would be a black vinyl-covered Auxiliary top!
Not very many cars DON'T suffer a styling penalty when the top goes down.
When you tell someone that you want your Corvette with a vinyl top, full wheel covers, and sidepipes, they'll look at you like your crazy if they don't know any better. I also love this same formula applied to the '68-'72s!
