Stereo display out.

Just bought a 2000 eddie bauer explorer. the display on the stereo is out. it works fine, you just cant see anything, stations etc... should i replace it? or can it be fixed? probably expensive to replace. I want to keep the stock stereo.

I replaced the radio lamps in my Volvo and found that it was pretty easy but a little time consuming because of the small size of the bulbs. The Ford radio is probably not that different. The Volvo used the micro lamps available from Radio Shack. Contact me via email and I will forward my notes and pictures.

I had the same problem with my 2000. I took it to the dealer since it was still under warranty and they replaced the display lights. The costs were minimal to replace it, but the labor got ridiculous.

There is no bulb to replace it is more complicated than that, for the moment I am just leaving mine as is...

I had this same problem recently on my 2000 Mountaineer, as have a whole lot of other folks. It appears to be the result of some bad soldering. There are a couple of ways to go but I had great results by going to the following website and taking part in the swap program. There's also instructions for fixing it yourself. I was skeptical at first but the guy was very responsive.
