5 speed tranny

hello all,

I got a quick ? about an 89 BII I recently got. How many types of 5-speeds were available in 89, and do either of them have any advantages/disadvantages over the others? Or, is there a place in one of these forums where this is already posted? Thanks ahead of time for the great help

What does the shifter look like? is it straight, or is it curved? Straight is a M5OD, most likely in an 89, and curved is an FM146. The M5OD is better than a FM146.
