Anyone have experience, good or bad, with rebuilders?
The IDI in my work truck died, and I need to replace it quickly...
I already know to stay away from Reviva and Jasper...
I never found a rebuilder that could do it good and quickly. You kind of have to choose one or the other.
Eventually, I decided to do neither. I just rebuilt it myself. Find a spare block on Craigslist in your neighborhood and do it yourself. It's a very simple engine to work on, and you probably have all the necessary tools already. I just had to buy a few things (like piston ring compressor, etc).
I'm running a Reviva since 2005 in my '93, the original engine failed do to Cavitation, and I think this is an issue that all rebuilders have, is getting good cores that have had the cooling system properly maintained.
when I bought this '93 in like 2002 or 3 ... it had just had the head gaskets replaced so I was a bit suspicious to begin with but the price was right at the time
I don't think Reviva offers the IDI engines anymore, possibly special order only.
