2017 6.7 platinum 350. Sometimes at start up i have a low oil pressure. Hit the throttle it goes away. Start it again later and have no issues. While driving i have no issues whats so ever. Its only at start up and randomly. I bought it in march and changed the oil with what was recommended in the manual. Thinking of switching to Rotella T6. Also changed the oil pressure switch with an autozone brand. Could have been a bad sensor. Had a buddy tell me to take the adapter off next time i change the oil and clean it out to make sure nothing is sticking. Anyone have any ideas?

Why wouldn’t you take for Ford to address under warranty? How many miles, Kms are on it. I agree with removing the non Ford sensor. I hope you have the original and can put it back on and take for Ford to address for you. No way should have this kind of issue early on like that.
Ive checked the oil level. I bought the truck with high milage. Over the warranty stage. I am waiting parts now. Hopefully they come in by next week and i can see if it helps. Bought a new sensor, adapter gasket, and insert for adapter. Gonna clean it up and see if anything is in it.
i asked a buddy today what he ran in his 6.7 and he said the valvoline blue extreme 5w 40. The bottle says its speced to that. Decisions decisions. I know everyone has the opinion on oils. Trust me i have read a lot if opinions.
thanks for the help guys. Will post more when parts come in.
Interesting video and Specs for 2017 on OIL Phosphorus is critical depending on climate might want to try a 15-40 thinner oils usually have lower pressures slightly. Watch the video somewhere on this site is an approved list of oils currently approved by Ford. 5 weights are for by design for cold weather lubrication benefit.
Everything up to this point is purely speculation.
Get the truck plugged in to something to get the ACTUAL OIL PRESSURE, or get a pressure gauge on it. Until then, nobody knows a damn thing. Period.
Has the random low oil pressure happened with the autozone oil psi switch?
Any oil on fords approved list ,in the correct weight for season should be 100% fine. Being that it’s a random issue, I doubt it’s a component issue, but the wise thing to do would be to hook up a known quality mechanical oil pressure gauge and see exactly what’s going on on engine start. Any noise associated with the low oil psi events?
Not that im aware of. I usually hit the throttle and i have pressure. Its very random. This morning it didnt happen but im sure it will later. There are no issues while driving and the motor is super quiet. I just need to fix this gremlin and its perfect. Same issue with my 04 f150. I had a 4x4 issue when i first bought it. Fixed it and ran for 13 years til i bought this 350.
Wonder if this has anything to do with the recall ford was doing on the 2017 6.7’s. Something to do with oil pressure. It required them to leave at dealer overnight and then check pressure at startup after it sat.
