The other night, my wife was behind me, in the Expedition. I had never noticed before (but we've only had it a month), but it appears the drivers side light is brighter. I noticed it more when we were making a turn. If she was directly behind me on a straight line it seemd ok. Even on a turn the other way, the drivers side seemed brighter. When I've driven it, it seems like the aim is ok? Could it be one bulb brighter? Doesn't seem to be way off....just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
You may want to verify the aim against a wall. Plus, you can always pull the bulbs and compare. Or even switch them and see if the problem is reversed.
The only thing I notice about my lights is not enough lumens. And the reflector design makes lots of "holes" in the pattern. Anyway...
What the problem might be is that the brighter light might be slightly higher than the other. Adjusting the aim in the wall is the best solution for that problem.
Thanks for the feedback. I think you guys are right. Looks like the drivers side is a bit higher. Does anyone know how to adjust them? I haven't looked at that, only at night and couldn't see anything. There are a couple of screws up top. Are those just to hold the lights in place or can I adjust with them?
You really think the 03 lights are dim? Everyone who is in mine comments on how bright the beams are, especially on high. I personally think they are the brightest I've ever had. I know they are brighter than the ones on my 00 or on my 02
I think there are too many holes in the pattern. It may just be me but another car I drive (a 97 Cadillac Catera) has the best, stock, Non-HID lights I've ever driven behind. Comparing the two make the Expy seem weak. (I should also say that the lights, the sunroof and the Bose stereo are the only real good things about that car. )
Conversly, compared to my Dodge Grand Caravan, the Expy lights are like the sun.
I guess its all a matter of what you compare it too.
ALL 03' plus Expedition owners
More importantly than brightness...Please check your headlight covers after raining..both my headlights get condensation in them, implying that they aren't sealed properly and bulbs will have a much shorter shelf life. My dealer is replacing under warranty.
My goal is to replace as much crap on the Ford Warranty to hurt their bottom line on this product line so that they will make better quality vehicles in the future because it will be more cost effective for them to do so.
Getting rid of this SUV would be too easy....
The 02 Explorer and 03 Expedition have very good lights, the only issue I have had (with the lights) is a metal heat shield came off the passenger driving light and started melting the inside of the housing. I just happen to catch it before it may have caught on fire.
They replaced the entire housing as it's sealed, or suppose to be !
I miss the lights on my 97! When some jerk would pass me cause he/she didn't want to be behind a larger vehicle - it was always fun to watch them adjusting their rearview mirror. The lights on the 03 seem too "car friendly". LOL a lot!!
