No it hasn't Rod. I figure that will take a few weeks to settle down. Busy morning here so far. More system testing and Facilities maintenance just had to cut power in building for some work that needed to be done. So we had to switch to the back up channel. How are you doing?

Hope they won't have the power down long. As much and learning and becoming proficient in new technologies and have a comfortable use of the older tech, when reverting can be cumbersome and stressful.
Hope your day goes well.
Home with the wife and hope to get a few things done. May run out to the store, get a mop lop, weed eat the back yard and not sure form there! Not been informed yet. LOL

The back up channel is an older channel and on an older repeater that we use for alot of other departments on campus. It is also not digital. The primary repeater we use is a digital repeater and is alot nicer.

Back in the day using VHF Low was good then along came clearer VHF High band. We transitioned and Low band and the noise was just not the same.
Then we switched to UHF Low trunked and the learning curve. After that High band was never the same. A couple of years before retiring we went to Digital and all the advantages of mobile dispatch, I can not see going back! And like you we still had UHF and VHF High in place and had to revert from time to time.

How much ground does the campus cover?
That should range should give the best saturation in a several block area as well as building penetration.

Our main campus is spread out over a few miles. Plus our satellite campuses. Our main repeater has a 16KM range. For our grad campuses they have repeaters.but they use a voip set up to transmit to our main repeater.

VOIP and Digital IP links make the range to satellite unites much handier.
With the Digital IRP system we tap into facility WiFi and extend or improve the quality or range with digital encrypted broadcast of VOIP or IP links!

Morning everyone. When I joined my fire department in 1992, the county was using low band for fire and VHF for ambulance. About 10 years ago, the county transitioned everyone that was not on VHF to VHF narrow band. For the most part, it works well but there was a need for a few more towers with repeaters that needed to be installed to help fill in the holes.
