I'm the proud, new owner of a '78 step side that needs a lot of work. First on my to-do list... get the parking brake working.
Here's my question for you. What options are out there to replace the parking brake control assembly? I'm interested in anything at this point, not just an exact replacement. Please point me to any helpful websites.
Where you located in Colorado? There are/were a couple of guys north of Denver that had collections of 73-79 parts for sale. The other options are find one at the PNP in Denver or Colorado Springs. I'll see if I can find some phone #'s and get back to you.
Mark.
Why replace it with something new and different, that might not work as well as the Ford designed one? Because you want to be different, I understand. Just wondering is yours not working, bent, broke, not there? Or you just want something cool looking like a air park brake valve on a big rig?
Look into a "line lock" device if you want new and different. Also check out a Micro Brake Lock.
Ben it seems like he has the parts and just needs to clean them and get them working. Or just wanted to know it anyone had swapped over to something cool and different.
Mine was locked up.... I took it off and put it in a bucket of Evapo-Rust and it looks like a new one now.
I don't have a pic of mine after cleaning but here is what Evapo-Rust did for my hood hinges..... Same for the E brake pedal.
I'm gonna tell ya what.... If you have never tried Evapo-Rust you will be VERY SURPRISED by the results. Rust just washes of like loose dust after it soaks in this stuff.
I am singing the praises of this stuff whenever I can...
Congrats on your new toy! I also live in Denver if you need any help.
If you didn't know there is a place called Sams Vintage Ford Parts around 51st and Washington St.
Might want to check it out sometime. Might have what you're looking for without dealing with shipping.
