I’m not sure if this goes here or under the diesel section. I’m looking at a 2005 F350 4x4 5.4 automatic. Timing chain is bad. How difficult would it be to swap in my 7.3 idi n/a and E4OD from my ‘91 parts truck? The 05 is only $500 and I’m having a hard time finding an extended or crew cab long bed 4x4 truck to hold me over until I have the funds/time to complete my project.
Hmmm. I’ll have to look into how to do that. I’ve always been told that once a timing chain goes, it usually damages other parts of the motor and it isn’t worth repairing the engine. Is this something I want to stick with Motorcraft parts or will offbrand be fine to?
I don’t think I’ll be able to find a used 5.4 and have it installed within my budget. I check out timing chain repairs. I already have the idi and trans so I was just wondering if that route would be cheaper. If not, I’ll just keep looking for another cheap extended or crew cab long bed 4x4 truck to hold me over until I can finish my project truck.
Any swap can be done with enough time and money. It all depends on how much time you have and how deep your pockets go. I would think a newer 7.3 99-03 model would be an easier swap. Keep us informed if you decide to do the swap.
