Timing Marks

Hello, I have a gas 1998 F250 truck. I am installing new timing chains and guides. I have never done this job before, I look up some videos which were pretty helpful. Before I took the timing chains off, I put the lower sprocket mark to point at 6 o'clock and the upper marks are at 11 o'clock. I did this by eyeballing it. I took the chains off and I installed a new oil pump, and the chain guides. but when I try to install the new chains, the painted links are off by a tooth. I install the bottom marked link to the 6 o'clock sprocket first then the upper two marks are off by a tooth. I tried to research this some more and saw one video where the guy mentioned it was ok if it were off by a tooth because the marks are hunting (something like that), then in another video the guy put the bottom mark first (chain link) and adjusted the top left (driver side) to line up with the top marks. So, which of these are ok? Or should I line install the top of the chain first and then move the bottom sprocket to line up with the bottom mark? I feel that in theory, if all the marks are lined up with the timing marks and chain marks, all should be ok, but, this is my first time doing this and I would hate to put everything back together and it not be in time. Any advise from you all would be greatly appreciated.

Thread moved.

This is a follow up to your earlier oil problem, right?

Hello 85e150, yes. I know what happened now. I cleaned everything up and saw the problem. The timing guide o the right side broke and the chain was rubbing on the timing chain cover until if finally made a hole which let all the oil out. I had been so busy that I did not have a chance to repair it until now.
