The TFI module has been a common problem do to heat, are you sure you have spark when it won't fire up.

i had a similar problem. listen an MAKE SURE your fuel pump is coming on.....my problem was the FP relay.(relay itself tends to make bad connections)
if thats not it, pull the coil wire off and hold it above the spot on the dist. look for a spark and listen for a tick.........if none, then its your coil.

the module is also a good place to look, but i believe its gonna show it face by killing the truck while your driving, not after turning the motor off.

After it dies and I have to take the ground off to reset the computer there is no spark from the coil before I take the ground off. but after I reset the computer it sparks and runs fine...

The fuel pump is running and primes the high preasure pump right before starting and I can hear the relay clicking right at start up.

I change the module on the back of the distributor to a motocraft
factory item.

After I found out my water tempture sensor #51 on the code tester was bad, Do I have to reset the codes somehow?

I had a similar problem with it quitting for no apparent reason. Service writer at dealer said when they replace the TFI they replace the stater at same time because if stater is worn it can send confusing info to the TFI (posted longer version of this story under "TFI module").
Mine would quit almost on a daily basis but has been over 3 weeks since stater was replaced and hasn't died once and gas mileage has improved, it was getting really bad. Worth checking into.
