rear axle spline count?

rear axle spline count?
here goes another one. is there a way to tell what the spline count is on a 9 inch rear without pulling an axle?i have a 81 fullsize bronco swapted in 400/c-6.i want to regear and want to order a third member the right way first. the least amount of spilled gear oil the better.

I'm thinkin the same, either 31 or 35 slpine. Does the axle tag still exist? I'm not sure if spline count can be decoded off of it, but it's worh a shot. SHould be on one of the 3rd member bolts, or there may be a serial/id number on one of the axle tubes, if the truck weevils havent eaten it.

Dave is right.. if you really wanted to check with very minimal oil loss.. Jack up the wheel/axle side that you want to check about 1 foot higher than the other side... remove the wheel, brake drum, then the axle. That was all the oil will remain in the axle

sorry i have been unable to check the puter for a couple days. the wife has breast cancer so time on the puter is minimal these days.i think i will try the suggestion of just jacking up the one side to pull the axle out that side. dont know why i didnt think of that. thanks for the suggestions guys.
