Howdy from Texas

First of all...thanks for allowing me to be here.

A little history. I owned and drove a 1963 F100 223 CI for many years. It was a ranch truck that we owned from probably 1966 to around 1985 when my Mother sold it to a friend who had retired and originally sold it to us from his dealership We pretty much used it as a ranch truck until my Brother went to University of Texas in 1971. He used it there until my Dad died in 1973 and he got his 73 Grand Torino Sport. That truck came back to the ranch and stayed there until it was sold. I did a lot of work on that truck and got pretty familiar with it. It was a bugger to work on, but had a lot of space under the hood, so wasn't too bad.

In High School I bought a 1971 F100 with a 360 and kept it until the mid 90's when I could not keep up with the maintenance and my wife threatened to divorce me over the F100 53, 55 and 57 I had in various state of repair. She divorced me anyway and I wound up getting rid of all of those mentioned. The 71 though.....I put over 300,000 miles on and it was probably my favorite. The 53,55, and 57 were project trucks that I never completed but made a small profit on. Some good people got good starting places.

I rebuilt the 360 in the 71 a couple of times and put on a four barrel carb, and installed a floor shifter, but other than that it was close to original. The brake system became a nightmare as I was always having to deal with something with it. I really hated getting rid of that truck...but it had to go.

Ten years ago I helped a neighbor with a 64 unibody with a 292 Ci. He had a little money and turned it into a fine collectors piece. I don't live next door to him anymore, but still visit from time to time and it is still in great working order.

So now you know my history with Ford trucks. I won't go into the lemons I had (anything built in 75), or any of my more modern ones.

I gave away my Explorer (another story entirely) which was my dove truck and my NEW wife has said I should get rid of my sedan and get a new truck.....!!!!!!??????

Not NEW mind you...but new to me. I have a budget of probably $11,000. Can I get a usable older 63 or 71 and another Ford that might work on a daily basis. Can an older Ford F100 be counted on for daily use in this day and time. It has been 23 years since I have owned an older Ford.....just curious.

Thanks in advance and I hope I didn't make y'all go to sleep.

The folks that can answer this kind of thing don't seem to often peruse the "New Members Introductions" forum. You might want to post in "1961 - 1966 F-100 & Larger F-Series Trucks" and/or "1967 - 1972 F-100 & Larger F-Series Trucks" to get a better idea.

As with anything, it depends on what parts are in it, how well it is maintained, and how it is treated. The truck itself doesn't care about what year it is . . . except possibly in regard to the type of fuel it is drinking.
