Locks on my 98 f150 will only unlock from the remote, the right door switch and when key is turned off. So far I have replaced the left door switch, verified both actuators function when using jump wires and did a bunch of pinpoint tests from manual (ie. it appears I have continuity, ground and power where it should be).The most interesting thing I have found is that when I put a test lamp in the PK/O wire at the right switch the left door actuator works from the right switch but only locks from the left. 2 ???'s: The left and right switches appear identical other than ones black and ones red. Are they interchangeable? And, the manual has left me at service circuit 118 (PK/O) for open circuit. I am not sure how to proceed and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Take a piece of wire with a fuse holder installed with 5 or 10 amp fuse and connect from the PK/O terminal on the right side to the PK/O terminal on the left side. If everything works normally with the jumper installed, you probably have a broken wire inside the boot at the hinge area that is between the door and the body.
Switches are probably the same, just manufactured differently from different vendor or process. You can verify by using continuity meter to see which terminals make contact while operating switch.
tell us how many terminals are on each switch. I am guessing 3, one for power, one for lock and one for unlock.
What color wire is going to the right door actuator to lock, what color to the left actuator to lock?
What color wire is going to the right door actuator to unlock, what color to the left actuator to unlock?
What color wire has voltage on it at all times on the left side and which color has power on the right?
