ok, i have a 88 f150 that i want to put a 460 in to(currently a weak suck 300) and i need to know if it will pass ga emissions(ill put a cat on it, i know i gotta do that) but will they pass it even if it has a different motor in it than the door sill plate says? any info would be greatly appreciated. and does georgia have this rumored hot rod exemption law bout havin a motor that never came in that vehicle? cuz you couldnt get an 88 f150 with a 460, just the 250s and 350s. thanks guys,
mike
That all depends on what year model the motor came out of. Like with mine, I had to go with a newer motor, rather than go older. Emissions people are stingy about that stuff over here in Texas. If you're going to use the stock exhaust for the 460, then I would think there shouldn't be any problem. But to be honest, I'd check on it, with the local inspectors before you go yanking anything out.

in maryland, the engine has to be the same year or newer. it can be any motor you want, it doesn't have to be one that was available in the vehicle of choice.
i got in under a deadline in 1994 and put a 78 in my 85fi50.
all i had to do was put the 78 pollution pump and cat on. it passes test easily because it only has to meet 78 standards. had i done a 76 or earlier, it would have been waived completely. so, check to see if georgia has similar laws.
to find out what i had to do, i went to a testing center and asked for the big chief. he gave me a pile of pamphlets that told me exactly what the guidelines are.
mike, i just bought my 86 F150. Originally it had a 6 cyl. But I got it with a 302 in it. I live in Nevada, when I smogged it, the looked for EGR, air pump, cat, and a couple others on the list i am forgetting. did not matter that the engine was not original, as long as the equipment was on and functioning. i would check out what is required in GA and go from there. I was really surprised at how easily they passed my truck...
