I bought a 19 super duty with the 6.7 custom ordered to have everything I wanted back in September . Absolutely been the best truck Iv ever owned towed amazingly and handles really well. Till about a month ago tried using the AC and it was just blowing hot air. Took in finally and they told me the compressor was bad and it was on back order that it might be there in a week and now told me they don’t know when they’ll get it and said I have to understand that there’s over 900 trucks needing one right. I was completely shocked they have 900 on back order. I asked if there was going to be some recall on that because that seems outrageous. He responded with “most of the trucks that need one are new and haven’t left the factory yet, fully built just missing the pump.” Now I have been working in the auto industry for over 7 years and the last 4 years of it have been in the production side of it. I can certainly tell you they are not going to fully assemble a truck without an AC pump to tear a bunch of it back off just to put that pump on.
So my question is is anyone else had issues with there pump failing so early with there trucks? Only has 10k on it. And I don’t know he would be blowing smoke like that. I do know the mechanics don’t get paid as much if it’s warranty work so maybe he just doesn’t wanna do it?
You would be the first I've heard of, but I don't read every thread on here. There was one guy recently, i think with a 2019, where the factory hadn't charged his AC system.
I haven't heard of this either. I've only had my '19 since September also, but have not heard of this in any other year or any other forum. I think you're dealer is telling you some hogwash. But why, I'm not sure.
I have 19 F- 350 built late Dec of 18, the compressor didn't fail but with 1500 miles, 3 weeks ago I tried my ac and it was not even cool (Hot). Took my truck to the deale. r and was told it had no refrigerant in system. Service manager said tech believed refrigerant had not been put in at factory, so they charged unit and put dye in to find any leaks. So far I've used ac pretty consistently and all is good. I find it hard to believe factory didn't charge system, but I'm sure stranger things have happened. I;m leaning towards equipment failure at the factory if no leaks. My brother just retired from ford,so i asked him aboutthat many trucks assembled and waiting for a compressor. He said in 40 years at Ford he never seen or heard of such a thing. You might want to go to another dealer and see what they say, thats what i'd do. Sounds like BS!
If there is 900 on back order then why when I check stock does it show 73 available for immediate shipment from the Memphis DC? Sounds like the dealer is trying to pad a warranty job and group their shipments. You can have one next day, the dealership is lying for some unknown reason.
I called a different dealer same thing except the long story of new truck assembled without one. But they said it was back order right now with no estimated delivery date. They gave me my truck back and it’s gonna be hot soon
Same story with mine 2019 F350, have been waiting almost a month now and still no compressor. They told me they were going to replace the whole system.
They just said the compressor for me. And the whole system is pro pay just to get more money from ford for the job. Mechanics don’t get paid as much for warranty work they pay less hours for the same job
Yeah i looked at it briefly and the compressor wasn't locked up. Asked them if they could just put a clutch on it, They assured me there was debris in the system. I dont really care i just need it to work, Im starting to get pretty irritated about it though. They said theyd get me a loaner but they couldnt get me one with a gooseneck hitch that i needed
Okay this is nuts, I place an order for two units HC3Z-19703-A and get both 2nd day FedEx. Your dealer is not making you a priority order in the system. I will mention that both trucks these are for didn't suffer compressor failure the compressor seized up because the system didn't have a proper oil charge. This hopefully doesn't affect too many trucks.
Thats good to know, i was starting to suspect they were giving me the brush off. I looked today and was seeing ford dealer listings on ebay for new oem compressors. I assumed they wouldnt list parts on ebay that werent available
