3" Add-a-leaf install, need help!

3" Add-a-leaf install, need help!
How should I hold the stock springs together to the new add a leaf to install the aligning pin? I tried to bring them together with the new aligning pin and stripped the threads off of it... Luckily, I was sent 3 on accident!! But how can I hold them together so that I don't strip another one? Thanks!

I tried c clamps at first, but couldn't get them to compress teh springs without bending the handles. I solved it though, I brought them over to a buddies and used his bench vise to compress them, then put the c clamps on and take it out of the vise, then put the pins in.
