Well I have a 1990 F-150 302EFI XLT x-cab short bed auto trains with OD. Well latley my truck has not had the pick up that it used to have, but sometimes there is good pick up. The symptoms are the idle goes up and down. when i'm getting on the highway it seems like it's got no power (80% of the time), also as soon as I get up to speed and the truck shifts up into OD it feels like theres no power and pulls back. Does it sound like the EGR sensor is going or is it something else. Oh ya my truck only has 61,400 on it.
Thanks for any help.
It could be a number of things. The first thing to do is to pull the codes. If your 90 is like my 87, you don't have a check engine light, so you'll have to use an analog volt meter to pull the codes. Check the MAP sensor, the Throttle position sensor. It could also be fuel filter, dirty injectors, or a clogged air filter, possibly even a vacuum leak. If you don't have a Haynes manual, I recommend getting one. They have test procedures and basic trouble shooting in there.
I do have a check engine light, but it has never lit up while it's doing what I said before. The aire filter is new and never get's really dirty. There's no vacum leaks, fuel filter is about a year old.
Is the TSP the EGR position sensor? What I run for gas is 87 @ Heffner's. I have new Bosh platum plugs and wires also new dis car and rotor.
Does the check engine light come on when you first turn the switch to the "on" position? The egr position sensor is the EVP. I doubt that is causing the problems, but pull the codes and see. If your check engine light doesn't come on, then it is either burned out, or like mine, is non functional and never come on even though codes may be present.
No I have not checked the fuel pressure, is there a regulator? I think I read some place that there is one but not sure. Also where is it anyway. Thanks epncsu2006 for your time!!
There is a fuel pressure regulator. It is located on the back driver's side of the fuel rail I believe. I'd also check the timing if you haven't done so already.
I also would go back to motorcraft plugs. The bosch platinums are overpriced junk imo. I had nothing but trouble with them in my van.. The 351 ate them
