Alternator Housings
Can I just swap the front covers from a 3G alternator with the offset mounting ears to one with 180* mounting ears?
In other words, I need this mounting pattern:

On the guts of this one:

My alternator went south, and of course I bought one that was listed as a direct replacement. Only after the fact did I find out that there are 2 different mountings that the alternators used.
I liked the 130A 3G model as a nice middle ground between the 75-95A and 170+A options I'd found. Now I could do the easy thing since the shop I bought from is local and just take it back and get the right one. But then I wouldn't be writing this. And I'd be stuck with a little bitty alternator.
FWIW, the it's a 94 F150, 300 I6, 5sp. I know there's some wiring to do to make the 3G fit.
Thanks!
If I did the housing swap myself I'm sure it would void the warranty. I was curious to see if anyone else had a similar idea and had pulled it off. The light bulb came on during my drive home, after the shop closed, of course.
Oh yeah, I'm getting it from http://www.motorcityreman.com It's nice to have them local.

Thanks,
Jeff
