New member intro
I bought a 93 F150 XLT 2x4 4.9L back in January. It has 224,xxx on it but still runs and drives like a dream. I’m in Nh so another huge bonus was the limited amount of rust on the body and frame.
I came across this forum after searching how to’s and specs when my starter recently went. I’m no mechanic by any means but I do enjoy tinkering and learning the engine and what not. So the starter was a tough locale but seemed to be a pretty easy job, figured I’d get it done in no time a day later I finished up. One big flaw to me is the aluminum casts with steel bolts! I ended up stripping the bottom bolt and then tried to tap it and reverse it but to no avail. My soulution was to keep increasing bit sizes and get a slightly larger bolt to put in.
The alternator has always be a pretty painless job on any make and model ive owned. Once again those bolts challenged me. The dang pivot bolt was stuck in there good. I soaked that thing for close to two days in pb blaster. Still unable to get it to move I decided to take off the arm but quickly realized the alternator does a great job of blocking a couple bolts. So I cut the alternator into many many pieces with a cut wheel. Finally I was able to get the bolts out of the bracket and brought the bracket to work where I have access to torches and welders. A lot of heat and a nut welded on the back side of the pivot bolt and it out.
Anyways that’s my intro. I look forward to browsing post of thing to improve on with my truck.
Thanks Joe
