Gentlemen,
I haven't been able to find a direct answer; and I don't intend to start a giant discussion.
My dilemma is: I have a 79 F100 with what I believe to be a Saginaw 3sp that is stuck in 3rd (and in a bad way to begin with)
I know a guy who has a "3 sp" out of a 72 F100 that he is willing to give to me. He is elderly and far away, so I'm trying to figure out with what little info I have if its worth it to go get.
He says the truck has a 3 speed and he believes its a top-loader like my own.
Are these years compatible as far as transmissions? [As a side note, what tips do you guys have for pulling and reinstalling a transmission on these trucks?]
I dropped my T18 using a jack and blocks with some ratchet straps around the frame. Let it down controlled and slowly. Reverse procedure for install. I think I hand some help for the last few inches and mating it up.
I needed long extensions and swivels. A power driver makes quick work of removing cross members and such.
If you replace the clutch resurface or replace the flywheel.

Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all synchromesh transmission = 1963/86 F100/250. So both the 1972 & 1979 have this trans.
Many of the internal parts are the same, what size are the two engines?
