Difference in 302's?

Would a 302 from a 70 truck be the same as a 302 from a 68 Mustang? If not, why?

Thanks.

In a word...........YES.

(Maybe a bit different in internal parts...but all the same outside)

Only did they start altering them in the early 80's. No more clutch pivot boss on the side, reverse water pumps, different internal balancing......

302's are all the same from the first ones in 67 up to when they went to one piece rear seal and roller cam in the 80's then the block changed.

I'd like to know too because the 302 in my '68 Econoline 1 ton was way different internally, different block, pistons, rods and crank than the passsenger car 302.

That's interesting, Barry. I know in 69/70, the front crank pulley went from three bolts to four and the timing pointer changed sides. The water pump changed about that time too, with the outlet on the opposite side. Could be just the diff between car and tuck engines, though.

Mexican blocks

Some 302's of this vintage were Mexican blocks. They had bigger main caps ala 289 HiPo. There were also stronger rods used in some 302 trucks, ala Boss 302. The Mexican block can be identified on the outside by a big cast bump on the front near where the PS pump bolts on.

That may be it, mine had beefier caps too but I don't remember seeing the bump. My brother up north has it now so I can't verify.
