73’ 361, will only run with the choke on. As soon as it starts to open the engine dies. Unplug the choke so it stays on and it will continue to run. Can’t seem to find a vacuum leak anywhere, have everything plugged. Anyone have thoughts?

Get a map gas mini torch and start checking all intake mating surfaces with the gas. Not lit of course. When the gas hits the leaking point the engine will speed up.

Could check level of fuel in the bowl. Some carbs will run if bowl is flooding by closing the choke.

If you're still stuck after checking for air leaks and bowl fuel level, might check other basics like fuel filter partial blockage or fuel pressure out of the pump.

Does it still have the factory governor and other emissions stuff on it? Does the choke have any vacuum switch or anything else connected to it?

I would start with a complete ignition tune up.(including points condenser, plugs wires, cap and rotor) This will have a points ignition and if the points aren't adjusted correctly, that will cause 90% of the problem here. And they need to be adjusted using a dwell meter, the gap setting is only a starting point. Strongly suggest converting the ignition to electronic (Pertronix for starters) then after that's in place and working and timed, then tune the carb to the engine's liking.

Is this a governed 4bbl carb that idles off the secondaries? Sounds like you need to go through it at a minimum. Somethings plugged up.
