If anyone is looking for a bolt on kit for traction bars BDS makes a great kit. I unfortunately dont have a welder so i looked around until i found something that i thought would work. Well took a risk and seems to bolt right in.
BDS 123408 and 123409 is the kits you need. One is the bracket kit and the other is the bars themselves.
You will need to have a 3.5" axle tube for this kit which my Dana 60 has. It bolts right in after you drill a few holes in the frame.
Havent yet tested then to see how they perform but BDS makes good quality stuff so im expecting good results.
The only downside is the price. I feel like i was stolen from. However once again, good quality product, and a bolt in kit. You can deff make trac bars cheaper but these are good for someone without access to a welder or short in time.
GOOD LORD! I know you said you didnt have a welder but for that price I would have bought one! I hope they used some vaseline . they are nice but I'm sure they could be built for a hell of a lot less
Did you check around any local sheet metal/fab/repair welding shops and see what they charge to lay a bead on something? I have a local sheet metal/welding shop that will weld what ever together for cheap. Like 4 extra heavy duty D ring tie down points on my trailer for 20 bucks...I have a stick welder, I am just not a professional welder.
I thought i could get the. For cheaper off different sites too but the spots claiming they sell it as a kit are only selling either the brackets or the bars not together.
Anyways, yes they are pricey but i also wanted to get something i knew would work and has been tested insted of potentially building something and it not working. Plus i like the idea of having the shock in the bars to still have the suspension articulate some. Maybe a gimmick, not sure.
Picture isnt great, but its a bracket that goes around the existing U-bolts and then has its own U-bolts to hold it onto the axle. The kit is designed for a 2015 or so superduty. I didnt install the brack in the correct orientation how it is designed. I may chang that later.
Yes i could have bought a welder for that price but im not the best welder and i dont have the needed voltage for one either and im the furthest thing from an electrician haha. I know there are other cheaper options available but like ive stated this is an easy bolt on kit that i know will ("should ") work and not deflect. These are beefy and beautiful, as they should be for the price haha.
What keeps the axle bracket from rotating on the axle?
Do you just tighten the he11 out of the U bolts and hope?
You said "shock"? Is there a rubber bumper on the rod I don't see in the pictures that helps soften the "shock"?
I have seen some bars like that used on cars cant remember if I have seen them on trucks?
