Red face Overheating

I previously had an issue with overheating and changed out the oil cooler. Used Torque and much improved delta after that. Today I watched the the temp rise over 200 under circumstances which it normally would be cooler. I dont think the radiator fan is working and the coolant is a little low. How should I proceed:

1) Check fuse for radiator?
2) add coolant of course.

Please note I am using a radiator coolant bypass filter which is keeping the coolant looking pristine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I’d check for a leak. Coolant mysteriously low and sudden temp increases are both good indicators of a leak in my experience.

Check your fan speed using torque pro.

Thanks. The more I looked into it I was being overly paranoid. Added some coolant. Temps good. So far no evidence of leak. Looks like 200 is ideal temp for the functioning of a diesel.

If you have a 192* thermostat installed and it is creeping up towards 200* then you may have one ready to stick closed. Mine did the same thing and I thought the same as you that 200 * is a good thing. Mine stuck closed while on vacation. Monitor your temps closely or replace that thermostat in my opinion. 200 is only good if you have a 200* thermostat.

My ECT at highway speeds is rarely below 195 degrees and I have a NEW Motorcraft 192 degree thermostat and coolant return system. Just about the only part of my engine that’s not new is the block.

The 200* thermostat means that the thermostat opens completely at 200* and the 192* completely open at 192* at least that's what I've always thought.

Seems like your saying the stat controls the coolant temp.

Motorcraft thermostats for the 6.0 last 1 year in my truck before they start running erratic or hot. I put a Stant in and it went 2 years before failure, running a Gates now. When they are right, a 192* should run 190-192 unloaded. Pulling my 10k lb 5th wheel I see 196 on flat ground.

I was trying to say that my temps were creeping up abnormally above 192 when before they would be close to it. It started to get closer to 200 when my driving conditions should have showed closer to 192-195. A thermostat failing closed was not on my radar but it is now.
