Heading to Alaska this summer and have heard about stones and such on the highways. Any experiences with driving there and what are your thoughts on adding a grille guard help protect the radiator?

About the best thing you can do is slow down and move over as much as you can when a semi passes you. The roads are WAY better than they used to be. Construction seems to happen more in Canada than Alaska it seems. Remember that the trip is just a bunch of short trips, so take your time and see as much as you can.

Excellent perspective! Also buy a copy of The Milepost, the “bible” of road travel between the Lower 48 and Alaska.
After taking a few deer to my work trucks and having them shut down for just a pin hole in the CAC, I added this to mine. No guarantee, but odds are better.
There are RV Tours offered and they require a screen mounted to protect the radiator along with other precautionary measures. I think they do this for a reason.

Dang that’s a nice truck! Ford makes the best trucks.
What most people think of as a "grill guard" is just metal bars that will minimize damage should you hit a deer. If you hit a moose (fairly common up north), you might as well kiss your **** goodbye. A screen like what golfmedik has on his truck should prevent rocks from impacting the radiator. My only concern with a screen like that is it _could_ reduce the air flow to the radiator.

These new diesels with all of the draft areas will not be a problem. I've towed at 104* in the mountains with no rise in temps. I watch them with an Edge CTS.
Have a complete Fab Four guard and screen on our 6.2 and have spent months driving in the West. Overheating has not been an issue in the mountains or on the flat.
Darn thing ink is so big and heavy it looks like it could stop a rhinoceros, but has never been put to the test. 🙂

What brand is that? Wife saw one like it and said we need one like that. (Large bars & chromed)
