New Engine Block Heater Recall: 19S11

Just saw this pop up, looks like Ford is just going to cut the engine block heater cable off until they come up with a new cable design. Apparently, if you've had your truck inspected as part of the last recall to look at the cable, Ford might have inadvertently damaged the splice.

“Dealers will disable the vehicle’s engine block heater cable by cutting off the plug end prongs and sealing the end cap with silicone sealant. Customers will be notified when an engine block replacement cable is available"

How about just don't use it until they have a replacement ready. No way am I having them complete this new recall. SMH.

I'll have to take a look to confirm, but I don't think they cut mine off.
They did the original inspection in February (I think), added some sealant and ordered some parts. Last week when I was in for service they told me that the recall had been changed and additional parts would be required before they could actually perform the repair. They didn't mention anything about cutting the power cord off.

Hah! Just noticed the recall on my FordPass app. It does say to disable the engine block heater cord - 19S11. Apparently 18S45 is out the window...

Correct, but this is a Part II to the recall. If you go back today, they will neuter it.

Disabling by cutting off the wires and siliconing over isn't a fix.

Finally a service procedure that the techs can't mess up!
Money saver too... If u have block heater but never use it for what ever reason...you won't bother having it fixed. Also, bring it in so we can cut off plug! If we don't go in and there is a Fire... Not Ford's problem... we didn't bring truck in for recall.

I guess if they get the parts in and installed before winter I won't get too twisted over it.
Still, I'll be a bit irritated if I find they cut it off without talking to me first. Will definitely affect how I deal with them in the future.

You're such an optimist.

I'm not going to bother with this stage of the recall. I simply won't use the engine block heater.

#metoo. This is insane in Alaska, where we actually need our block heaters working.

I would hope that Ford prioritizes where they send the parts kits for this action.
One of my kids tried to talk me into moving to Alaska. When I learned he had to keep a toilet seat inside his cabin so his butt wouldn't freeze to the seat in the outhouse, I moved to Hawaii instead.

Sticking to the seat only happens to Pete Schweaty.

Its not claiming to be a fix, its Fords way of making sure some ******* doesn't plug it in (and possibly start a fire, etc.), .......until a fix is available. Then it will get fixed properly with an updated kit.

I had a appointment at my local dealership scheduled for last Saturday. Good thing I read something about they didn't have a fix yet. Cancelled my appointment and will just wait until I hear otherwise.

I was subject to the recall on the recall today. If it is helpful to anyone my 3 prong AC plug is still there without any visible sealant. I could check the resistance but it is snowing now and I'm lazy.

Waiting on the recall on the recall on the recall.
