Alright well it's time for an update since this. Turns out the fuel pump was bad and it wasn't getting constant fuel to the carburetor. That is why it would run well and then die. Either way threw that old carburetor off and replaced it with an Edelbrock 500CFM my buddy had lying around. We got rid of most of the vacuum leaks (intake manifold gaskets are leaking) and replaced the ignition module which was causing it to misfire. We ran an electric fuel pump to a jerry can so we could get it to my buddies house where he has a hoist to take the bed off (tank is full of gas) to replace the pump.

Also important to note, even though my truck is a 1985 it has electric fuel pumps in both tanks. I found that out by noticing the block off plate for the original mechanical fuel pump on the block as well as the fuel pump safety shut off switch under the dash.

Well long story short after we got it dialed it was running great. We were just about ready to limp it to his house when I noticed we lost oil pressure. We looked in the valve cover and saw no oil coming through the rockers.

So it looks like a rebuild is in order..
