Probably better to cut it out and get a square piece in. If your lucky it will be over the gas tank so you cant see it from the bottom. Only thing on mine is I wish they would have fiber glassed over the weld, it wasn’t that great.
I’d file an insurance claim regardless.
If you are in the Houston area and if an F150 floor would work I could probably hook you up with a patch piece before we scrap the junk bed.

Due to the expansion and contraction traits of aluminum, using fiberglass over aluminum is a no go. Filler yes, but only over a properly prepaired substrate. Sorry i’m a paint and body nerd
Ok well I feel better then. Just thought about it and its over the gas tank so bedliner will fix the ugly weld without anything else. Its towards the front of the bed under the toolbox so probably even better as nothing pointy heavy will slide there.
Thanks guys. I plan to do a bedliner to cover it. Figured they would have to pull the bed. Glad it can be welded.
Labor-wise, it will probably be less expensive to replace the entire panel. In the photo below of when I got rear-ended by a telephone pole (don't ask), the bumper pushed into and bent the outer bed panel forward a little bit. My dealer's body shop replaced the entire side of that bed because it was less expensive than trying to form it back and welding it, along with the associated bodywork to prep for paint.
Long time lurker first time poster here. Glad to be here.
I just put a hole in the bed of my truck. My question is can body shops weld the aluminum?
This is upsetting as I take very good care of my truck and its been a great truck so far.
Thanks in advance.
Hi after you get it fixed get spray on bed liner and then add this mat . i toss all kinds of things in my bed and no dents yet. Hope this helps i also got a deezee tailgate mat and tailgate piston that prevents fast tailgate drop. hope this helps and good luck. https://www.etrailer.com/Enclosed-Tr...SABEgJJhPD_BwE
I had a mat just like that one and it tore right through it. I was carrying a tall steel weight rack in the bed, I didnt think about the fact it was taller than the cab. Hit the top of the garage door opening and pushed the weight rack through the bed. Pretty stupid of me. Believe me I've been beating myself up about it.
