Hey people. I have the 1994.5 f350 7.3 turbo diesel, with hydra tuner. Everything on this truck was already done when I bought it. Recently changed the oil. Next day I drove to work and back. Approximately 140 mile round trip. Ran like a champ. Next morning start her up and let her run for a little bit, back out of my driveway, put her in 2nd and ease forward.... she dies on me. Crank and crank but have no fire. So now I : change the CPS (motorcraft brand) have put the batteries on charge and cranked with “start assist” and the tack is moving up and holding steady while cranking, cranked for a full 25 seconds, my hpop was very low. I refilled it. Still no fire. I have unplugged the sensor going into the driver side valve cover. Checked the fuse for the fuel bowl heater, it was fine. I have hooked up code reader and it says “no fault codes” . My wait to start light also comes on and off, and I can hear the click over. My next step was to follow the programmer chip back to the computer, unplug it , clean the contacts and try to crank again. I have a feeling this won’t work.
any help would be greatly appreciated because I think my next steps are going to be very expensive like pcm and so on.
Since it started after the oil change I would suspect the check valve above the oil filter fell out when replacing the filter, guessing you did change the oil filter? It's just a plunger and spring assembly and is only staked in on the early models. They tend to fall out when removing the filter and later models have a snap ring to hold it in place. The only way to tell is to remove the oil filter and inspect to see if there is a hole up top inside where the filter screws into. If you still have the old oil in a container just feel around for it.
Also I agree with knottyrope suggestion, if you changed the oil yourself it takes about 15 quarts with the new filter.
I appreciate the help you folks sent me. In my head, I had narrowed it down to the idm or a problem with the hpop. The flow chart one of you kind folks posted was very helpful. To test these I bought a Bluetooth scanner, a cheap one and downloaded the torque lite app. I got the Bluetooth and all to work properly but the app couldn’t find the ecu. So hitting a wall, I hired a local mobile diesel mechanic. Really nice dude. He was stumped. also he wasn’t able to pull any codes either. I know this next word is unpopular but...one spray of ETHER and the truck fired right up. Anyone know why ? Three days later and still starts right up without ether. What will ether do damage to? Also he was able to get some codes after he input the year of the truck from a 94.to 95 does anyone know if I can do this with a specific app? Thanks.
P.s power hungry performance is an awesome company. I damaged the USB port on my chip when removing it and the issued a warranty on it without even charging me shipping. I bought that truck with the chip already on it, they didn’t seem to care. I thought that was pretty cool.
Several years ago I went to start my truck it fired right up and then died. I went threw checked oil level resivour level and fuel everything was good. Had two trucks hooked to it with cables it was cold night before but not that cold. Tried multiple cranking sessions was ready to call and have it towed home I was in collage at the time. A friend suggested starting fluid which I do not like but being 3 hours from home I ended up disabling the glow plugs. And gave it a small shot it fired right up and no issues ever again.
