I had a new stock clutch put in as part of a warranty repair at 37000 miles (now has 65000). The rear main was leaking and drenched the clutch with oil, so they replaced it as an incidental. I plan on a putting a Luk replacement in in a couple months, don't have the money to do it now. My problem is I think the clutch is starting to let go. When I hit 5th gear and run the boost up kinda high (10+ PSI) at around 1500 RPM the truck accelerates, but the tach goes up about 300-400 RPM but the truck isn't keeping up with the engine RPM. Is this slippage or am I missing something? It only seems to do it in 4th and 5th gears. I can nail gears from 1st through 3rd without any slippage, and slowly accelerating in 4 and 5 doesn't cause this. I did a test someone recommend on here where you get the truck to 3rd gear at about 1000ish RPM and floor it to see if it slips then, but it doesn't.
Its slippin alright. Probaly has oil on it agian or you clutch isn't engaging all the way. The tranny to bellhousing bolts may need retorquing, probably not what it is but I would check anyway. I have a mustang and a while back one of the tranny to bellhousing bolt ears had cracked which caused the clutch to slip.
That's what I figured. The bad thing is I've been unemployed for 7 weeks, so I don't have the funds to replace the clutch yet. I start a new job on Monday, so I figure if it'll hold long enough for me to get a couple paycheks I'll be ok. I wonder if returing the engine to stock tune will keep it from blowin out on me.
I don't think detuning will make a difference. The clutch will run for a while like that if you baby it. When it starts slippin just let off the gas and let the clutch catch up to the engine speed. I wouldn't do any pullin either.
