Pulled the sparks plugs and checked each cylinder. Good news is 7 of them had only a small amount of carbon build up. However #1, was almost perfectly clean. What would cause this? The engine also has a miss under power. Head gasket? Or....worse?
All the plugs should be light tan, your clean plug indicates lean misfiring and that's not good. If the piston looks shiny then suspect head gasket as the coolant will steam clean a cylinder.

Yes, the piston appears to have been "steam cleaned" :-(
Also worth mentioning is these engines have been known to lose the wrist pin retainer and the pin will wear through the cylinder into the water jacket. Pretty much the block is a loss at that point. What cylinder is ultra clean? If its cylinder 1 or 5 then it may be possible the intake gasket is leaking and a final weird thing that happens is the intake rusts so much it pin holes and sprays water right into the intake runner.
