I promise, I have done my due diligence and searched this place over for a thread talking about this, so let's start out asking for forgiveness for what I am sure is a topic that has been covered here a million times! I must not be educated enough in the use of the search feature just yet.
I have a 83 F150 with a 5.0 that is not going to make the cut on "team pull my trailer". But what will make the team is a 429 with a C6 that I have already built and ready to go. I have found L&L conversion kits that I can purchase to put the 385 in this beauty but I am sure someone here, that is as frugal as I am, has found a less expensive way.
Who here has done this and can give me some advice of the do's and don'ts? I am pretty handy at putting engines in things that didn't come from that factory with them as I put the 385 series engines in race cars all the time. Perhaps there is a good thread here that has some good information?
Also are there engine mounts that were from another year truck that would work?
great engine selection, one of my favorite Ford engines. Tough and powerful and reliable, just like a C-6. I'd figure you could use all or parts of 70s truck 460 mounts?
So why not find a 1983-up f250 or f350 with a 460, and use all the parts from it to install the 429? The 429 is the same as the 460 correct? I hope the rear sump oil pan and oil pump setup from a 460 will fit a 429. The motors mounts are the same correct? Exhaust manifolds from the 460 bolt up to the 429?
As you can tell I have never done this swap, but if the 429 and the 460 are basically the same, i do not see why you could not use the 460 parts from one of these trucks, the frame layout is the same. One thing I do know you will run into is oil filter clearance. You will have to run a remote oil filter setup. Trucks that came with the 460 or the diesel had a dent in the front crossmember and a oil filter adapter that was angled. Your truck will not have the needed dent in the crossmember.

The 429 and the 460 are exactly the same. The only difference between them is the stroke.

Use the perches from the 460 equipped donor in your F-150 and you can use the same 460 motor mounts. I went the L&L route - even though they have warranty, if they aren’t durable and last with the power, that’s the route I’ll have to take with 100 steps backwards after this resto and swap the perches. I even had a donor frame in hand and never took the perches
I think you’ll still be stuck with swap style headers though.

429 engine mounting parts are not the same as 460, because 429's were onlyinstalled in 1968/72 Thunderbirds & 1968/73 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars.
However the 1968/73 429 and 1968/78 and some 1979 460 internal balance blocks are the same, so whatever fits a 460 will also fit a 429.
