Talking Protecting my tail lights!!

I have noticed (on my clumsy days) that the tail light lenses are prone to accidental chipping/breaking because they are immediately beside the open tail gate area. Some design huh? Well, taking some thin gauge carbon steel sheet metal (didn't want to use stainless as I wasn't sure that this would work) I plasma cut some "protectors" to attach to the bed of the truck and sticking out about 1/4" past the delicate edge of the tail light. They will NOT save the plastic from full out assault but will help in preventing some careless oaf (me) from damaging them again. The pics show the existing damage and the "protectors" installed. I covered them with spray-on bed coating. to prevent rust, provide a stronger surface than mere paint and the black color helps them to blend in. I didn't take pics showing the making of these things because... I forgot to! 2 pics with tail gate closed, 2 pics with tailgate open.

maybe your tailgate hinges are too sloppy but that is a good fix to help protect the lights

Are they aftermarket lenses? Sometimes they are just a little bit wider than OEM.
