I am not an audiophile. I listen to talk radio mostly with some occasional music, both on Sirius. This is my first ford with a factory Sirius receiver.
the audio sounds terrible with Sirius but sounds absolutely fine when I tune with local radio stations.
I feel weird even asking this question. Is this normal? Anything I can do?

Yes sir its normal. Sirius quality is tinny and hollow. I believe it has to do with the way they compress the audio files. My ol’ lady has it in her wrangler and the broadcast quality is terrible. She loves the selection though. Every time i call to renew the subscription, i use the lacking quality as a way to haggle them down on the price. Never pay full asking for sirius or xm.

I recently let my subscription go on my F350 and they hounded me to come back and renew. Finally got a call from a lady who could actually speak English and she gave me a decent price so I renewed for 6 months. Got the service back last week and it sounded better then before! Hard people to deal with since they have a monopoly on the service.

I have several other Sirius devices though and the ford is the first I experienced this. Is it a ford receiver specific issue?
I noticed just yesterday that the Sirius sound quality in our Lincoln had degraded badly and nothing could improve it. When my subscriptions expire, I'll not be renewing. Pandora and audio books are my friends.
Agreed, poor quality here too. I previously worked in the development field for Car Audio and this has always been an issue. We used to work to make it sound better on the receiver end, but a turd is still a turd even when polished. I can't stand all the car dealer commercials that never stop in my area so I pay $60.00 per year for Sirius and deal with it when I listen.
might be the only one that thinks it does not sound that bad. before I even received my truck I had read how terrible the b&o system was, so I expected to pay $1500 in speakers. don't think it is the best I have ever heard, but it's not that bad. I have it set to stereo instead of surround and faded to the back. when I stream Spotify it actually sounds worse and not as loud and clear as sirius.
FWIW - the audio quality for Sirus is vastly better when you stream through their app. Unless I'm listening to one of the news/talk stations, I'll always stream through my phone / car play.
I suspect that they've had to shave bandwidth due to all the channels they've added over the years, resulting in degraded satellite audio quality.

Thanks - I thought it was just me. Yesterday I played iTunes and at even 256kbps over bluetooth it was far superior. I'll try the app via cellular.
Poor quality because it is compressed. Terrible sound quality. I rather play Amazon Music for $8 a month and get true uncompressed digital sound quality.

Sorry , but if you think Sirius doesn't sound so bad , I can save you the 1500$ on speakers.... It's a compression issue. No system can make Sirius sounds good. They use a bitrate of 64kbps.... So welcome to 1996. I can't believe they are still in business honestly when they advertise their ''Crystal clear and superior sound quality''.

most of the time I just have it on as background noise (volume level 8 at loudest) to drown out the tire hum. damn, maybe my wife is right about my hearing then.
