92, 2.3 Liter. does anyone know how the timing marks should be lined up? dug74(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

you should have timing marks on your timing belt cover.Line up the crank pully at top dead center,it should be in line with your marks on the cover.distibuter cap rotor button should be in line with number one cylinder.Check camshaft pointer on pulley,should be in line with notch also.I have a 2.3 that i bought from someone,and the timing was 180 degrees off.I tried starting it and then found out that it was that far out of time.I was really surprised that i didnt bend a valve.I got lucky so even if it isnt timed right you shouldnt have a prob with any valve interference.I found out that the Haynes manuels for that motor are really helpful in the timing department.

i am working with 3 pulleys and each of them have a timing mark. was told that they all have to be lined up correctly. it has coil packs , so no distributor to play with. 92 2.3 mustang
