OK my turn to get smacked... . ..I have had my truck for about 6 years now, and have done the maintainence religously...except....I looked by the intake and I didnt see a fuel filter to replace. So I figured I would get it someday. Well I think its about time that I get off my butt and change it. **bending over** THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!
Where is the damn thing?
And as many times that I have taken apart my drive shaft...I have read in here about the "Pinion nut?" That it does come loose and cause wierd little quirks with the drive line acting up. Where is that? I want to check it to make sure it isnt having a prob.
Thanks to all who smack me for skipping the filter in all my tune ups.
The fuel filter is underneath the body near the driver's side door, inside the frame rail. It's a little smaller than an oil filter. You may or may not need a special wrench to get the fuel line clips off.
...and the pinion nut is behind the pinion flange that your rear driveshaft bolts to right at the front of the diff. To get at it you will have to drop the rear half of the rear driveshaft. Without replacing the pinion seal, its difficult to get an accurate torque spec. on it but the Haynes manual gives a little detail on getting close. If your truck is of the vintage that it still has the Ford 9" rear end you may not have the flange and you will just have to disconnect the rear U-joint at the pinion yoke to access the nut.
