For folks that are using torque sticks to torque the lug nuts - this is not correct and maybe even unsafe. The purpose of a torque stick is to prevent over torqueing the lug nut when using an impact wrench to tighten the nut. An actual torque wrench must be used to set the final torque value of the lug nut.
In other words, the torque stick is to protect the lug nut and stud, not set the torque.

Torque to break a fastener free is not the same as the torque setting when the fastener is assembled. That out of the way, it’s likely the wheels and to a lesser degree the studs take an initial set. This is common and the reason aftermarket wheel manufacturers recommend retorquing after ~100 miles.
